About Cryer Elevators
Our Cryer elevators are paired left- and right-handed instruments used to elevate retained roots and root fragments, most often for mandibular molars. Each has a triangular cross-bar blade that engages interradicular bone and the root surface using a wheel-and-axle action, rather than the straight-line wedge action of a straight elevator.
Why Left and Right Are Sold as a Pair
The left and right patterns are mirror images of each other — the blade angulation is built for mesial access on one side and distal access on the other, so a matched pair covers both approaches to the same root space. This is why we supply Cryer elevators mostly in pairs rather than as a single instrument. The blade tip is angulated with one convex and one flat surface, giving a secure purchase point against the curved root surface.
Ordering a Side or a Pair
Tell us whether you need the left instrument, the right instrument, or the matched pair — ordering "a Cryer elevator" without specifying the side will not necessarily get you the side you need. Pairs are the standard order for a general oral surgery tray, since most procedures benefit from bilateral access to the same root space. We supply this as an individual instrument or as a matched pair; minimum order quantity and private-label options are confirmed with your quotation.
Material and Care
We forge these from stainless steel and harden them for the leverage forces involved in root elevation. Inspect the triangular blade tip for rounding or damage after each use — a dulled or deformed tip loses the purchase point the design depends on.
