How to Choose Dental Surgical Instruments

For rongeurs, specify side- or end-cutting design, jaw profile, overall length, joint, and spring. For files, state the pattern, surface, ends, curvature, and handle. For curettes, record pattern, cup or spoon dimensions, single/double-ended configuration, and handle. Use only verified values when narrowing the selection.
Compare Retraction and Tissue-Reflection Instruments
Retractors are compared by the tissue or access requirement together with blade width, depth, profile, angle, and handle. Periosteal elevators are compared by blade edge, width, curvature, end configuration, and handle. They often appear in the same surgical setup, but they should not share one generic “retractor/elevator” product identity.

Pattern names should appear only where stocked as products or verified variations.
