About Hirschfeld Periodontal File

We build the Hirschfeld periodontal instrument as a periodontal file used to crush tenacious calculus that is too firm for direct curette or scaler removal, currently supplied in the Fig. 3/7 pattern.

A Secondary Instrument for Heavy Deposits

Multiple cutting edges engage heavy deposits on the root surface, working the deposit apart rather than shearing it off in one stroke the way a curette or scaler does. It is a secondary instrument in the tray, reached for only after a curette or scaler proves insufficient.

Ordering and Care

We manufacture in surgical-grade stainless steel that retains its ground bevel through normal chairside resharpening, satin or mirror finish. Available for bulk and private-label orders; minimum order quantity is confirmed with your quotation. Follow your facility's own validated reprocessing protocol; our dental instrument cleaning and ultrasonic processing guide and our instrument sharpening guide cover general reference workflow.

Hirschfeld Periodontal File Questions

When is a periodontal file needed instead of a curette?

When calculus is too tenacious for a curette or scaler to remove directly — the file crushes the deposit apart rather than shearing it off in one stroke.

Is the Hirschfeld file autoclave sterilizable?

Yes, as a reusable surgical-grade stainless steel instrument reprocessed under your facility’s validated sterilization procedure.

When would I use a periodontal file instead of a curette?

A file is a secondary instrument, used only after a curette or scaler proves insufficient against tenacious, firmly attached calculus deposits.
