About Tissue Scissors
These straight tissue scissors have blunt tips on both blades and measure 5.5 inches (about 14 cm) overall. They are made from AISI 420 stainless steel, passivated and autoclavable, and supplied one instrument per unit. They are a direct choice when your specification calls for straight, blunt/blunt, 5.5 in.
Blunt/blunt or sharp/blunt?
Tip configuration is described blade by blade, and tissue scissors are also widely sold in a sharp/blunt version. Before ordering, check the label on the pair you are replacing:
- Blunt/blunt (this instrument): both blade tips are blunt.
- Sharp/blunt: one blade ends in a sharp point, the other in a blunt tip.
These are different configurations, so one is not a like-for-like replacement for the other.
Steel and surface treatment
AISI 420 is a hardenable martensitic stainless steel. It is a common choice for cutting instruments because it can be brought to a working edge. Passivation treats the finished surface to support the steel's natural corrosion resistance. This matters for an instrument that will go through repeated cleaning and autoclave cycles. Reprocess the scissors following the instructions supplied with them, within your facility's validated cleaning and sterilization process.
