About Ten-piece perforated impression tray set

This perforated impression tray set gives you ten trays covering both full-arch and partial impressions: six full-arch trays, upper and lower in three sizes each, and four partial-coverage trays for the front and side segments. One set covers the common tray choices at the chair without assembling trays from separate stock.

What the set contains

Upper full-arch trays: 3, with palatal coverage, in three sizes.
Lower full-arch trays: 3, with an open center, in three sizes.
Anterior trays: 2, for front-segment impressions.
Sectional trays: 2, a mirrored pair for side segments, with long handles.

Choosing the right tray from the set

Three choices lead to the right tray. First the arch: upper trays cover the palate, while lower trays are open in the center for the tongue. Then the coverage: a full-arch tray takes the whole arch, while the anterior and sectional trays take only the segment you need, which is a different shape from a small full-arch tray rather than a smaller version of it. Finally the size, chosen from the three full-arch sizes.

Why perforated

Each tray is perforated. The impression material flows into the openings and locks mechanically to the tray, which helps keep the impression seated in the tray as it is removed.

How do the upper and lower full-arch trays differ?

The upper forms have a palatal portion and the lower forms have an open center, and three relative sizes of each arch form are shown. Match the arch first, then the required size within that arch's range.

Does a perforated impression tray also have a retention rim?

Not necessarily. Perforation and retention-rim design are separate tray specifications: one maker, for example, lists perforated trays both without and with a retention rim under different references. Keep both attributes in the tray reference when you compare patterns.

What are the perforations in an impression tray for?

Perforations are openings through which impression material can engage mechanically with the tray, so they describe a retention feature. Retention-rim design and the impression material's adhesive requirements are separate details to compare for the particular tray and material system.

How do the anterior and sectional tray forms differ?

The anterior forms cover a front segment, while the opposed sectional forms have mirrored side-segment outlines and long handles. Choose the segment you need as well as the tray size when you identify a partial-coverage pattern.
