About Blue titanium-coated frame, punch and clamp forceps

Our blue titanium-coated rubber dam instruments cover the three hand-instrument jobs in dental dam work: holding the sheet, making its openings and placing the clamp. The dam sheet itself forms the barrier; these instruments prepare it, hold it and secure it.

Three instruments, three jobs

U-shaped frame: projecting attachments around the frame hold the sheet taut and out of the working area, so the isolated teeth stay accessible.
Rotary-disc punch: a punch tip works against a perforated rotating disc. Turning the disc selects a different opening, so one punch can make the openings a case needs.
Clamp forceps: paired engagement tips grip the clamp so it can be opened, carried to the tooth and released in place.

Clamp, forceps and sheet

These three terms are easy to mix up. The clamp is the small retention component that sits on the tooth; the clamp forceps are the instrument that handles it. The sheet is the barrier, held by the frame and opened by the punch. When you order, name the instrument you need, and list clamps or sheets separately if you need them too.

Blue titanium-coated finish

This configuration has a blue titanium-coated surface finish, which also makes the instruments easy to pick out on a tray.

**Frame, upper left**
The U-shaped frame sits behind the central instrument. The small attachment pins around its outline are what hold the edges of the sheet.
**Clamp forceps, centre left**
The curved handles are at the top and the small engagement tips point down. Name this instrument when you need a tool that carries and releases the clamp.
**Punch, right**
The handles extend upward. The punch tip and the perforated rotary disc are near the bottom. The disc is the quickest way to tell the punch apart from the forceps.

Choose a reference and write each request line

The four catalogue references are separate options from the default blue configuration. Each one has its own code and listed length. DIS-CAT-0309 and DIS-CAT-0310 both list 160 mm, but they are different codes. Quote the exact code rather than the length.

If you are replacing an instrument, the code from your previous order, the marking on the instrument or a clear photo of it is the most reliable way to match the same tool.

Add a quantity to every line
State how many of each instrument you need, so two frames and one punch become two lines with their own quantities.
Add the code, marking or photo
Write the exact catalogue code if you know it. For the default blue configuration, write DIS-VAR-0017. Otherwise, include the marking or a photo of the instrument you are matching.
Name your clamps on the forceps line
On the clamp forceps line, state the clamps you use with them so the forceps can be matched to your clamps.
State the finish

List sheets and clamps separately

Rubber Dam Instruments Questions

Which rubber dam instrument supports the sheet, and which handles the clamp?

The frame supports the dam sheet, the punch makes openings in it, and clamp forceps engage and handle the separate retention clamp. Choosing by those roles helps you tell a sheet-support component from a cutting tool and from a clamp-handling instrument.

What does the rotary disc on a rubber dam punch do?

The disc presents alternative openings opposite the punch tip, and the selected opening belongs to the punch mechanism and determines the opening made in the sheet. Punch-opening size is therefore a different specification from frame dimensions or clamp-forceps length.

Are rubber dam clamps and clamp forceps the same item?

No. A clamp is the retention component, and clamp forceps are the instrument that engages and handles it through the clamp's engagement points. The names describe related parts of the system, but buying a forceps and selecting a clamp are different decisions.
