About Mathieu Needle Holders

Selecting the right configuration
Choose the overall length, jaw shape, gripping-face design and ratchet arrangement. Specify whether a fine-jaw or standard-jaw model is needed and how many individual holders belong in the order. A Mathieu holder should not be substituted for a ligature cutter or treated as a combined cutting instrument unless that function is explicitly documented.
Measurements and evidence
The nominal length reference is 140 mm; confirm the exact length for the quoted model. Medesy independently lists 140 mm and 170 mm Mathieu patterns; another manufacturer, SMS, lists additional lengths. That supports the pattern terminology, not an exact-model match. Keep the owner’s nominal size separate from a measured overall length and tolerance on the approved order drawing.
Care and documentation
Check alignment, spring action and ratchet engagement when evaluating a sample. Request the actual needle-holder IFU, intended needle range, jaw material and reprocessing instructions. A gold-coloured section alone does not prove tungsten-carbide construction. Competitor needle-size recommendations are not adopted for this instrument.
