About Gracey Curettes
We build Gracey curettes as area-specific periodontal hand instruments for scaling and root planing. Each numbered pattern has an offset blade with one primary cutting edge, angled so the instrument adapts to a specific tooth surface rather than working universally around the mouth.
How the Offset Blade Works
Unlike a universal curette, which cuts on both edges of its blade, a Gracey curette's offset blade means only the lower cutting edge engages the root surface. This lets us tune the shank and blade angle to a specific tooth group and surface, improving access into periodontal pockets that a universal blade angle cannot reach as cleanly.
Matching a Pattern to the Surface
Match the numbered pattern to the tooth surface you are treating: 1/2 for anterior teeth, 11/12 for mesial surfaces of posterior teeth, 13/14 for distal surfaces of posterior teeth, and so on through our standard range. A full-mouth scaling sequence typically uses several patterns in combination rather than one curette for every surface.
Individual Patterns or the Seven-Piece Set
We supply Gracey curettes as individual patterns or as a seven-piece set, which covers the commonly used combination for practices building a complete Gracey range in one order — see our Gracey Curette Set page for that configuration. We manufacture in stainless steel with a satin finish; minimum order quantity, packaging, and private-label options are confirmed with your quotation.
Sharpening and Care
Inspect the offset blade for edge wear on the single active cutting edge specifically, since the unused upper edge can mask how worn the working edge actually is. Follow your facility's own validated reprocessing protocol; our dental instrument cleaning and ultrasonic processing guide and our instrument sharpening guide cover general reference workflow.
